Marbella Film Wedding Photographer

I’m María Benítez, a documentary and film wedding photographer based in Andalusia. I photograph weddings in Marbella and along the Costa del Sol, combining digital photography with 35mm and medium format film.

My work is about people, the atmosphere and everything that happens when you bring everyone together to celebrate.

When you choose film, I use my film cameras alongside digital throughout the day. Depending on the number of rolls, that might include getting ready, the ceremony, portraits, your guests and the party.

I work with real 35mm and medium format film, using both film and digital to tell the story of your wedding. I love the grain, colour and movement of film, and the way it records light.

I shoot 35mm and, for some weddings, medium format, in both colour and black and white. The number of rolls you choose determines how much of your wedding I photograph on film. We can talk through the options before you book.

What I love about photographing weddings on film

I pay attention to light, composition and what’s happening around me: people talking over dinner, a hand on someone’s shoulder, friends dancing together. These are the things I look for with both my digital and film cameras.

With film, I choose each frame carefully. Its grain, colours and texture become part of the photograph, whether I’m making a quiet portrait or photographing the party with flash.

What matters to me is that you recognise yourselves in the pictures and that, years later, they bring you back to the people and the feeling of being there.

Weddings in Marbella, Malaga and Sotogrande

I’ve been photographing weddings since 2009, and the Costa del Sol is one of the areas I travel to most.

I’ve photographed weddings at Finca El Molino del Duque, with its large garden and a house where you can get ready; at Palacio Limonar, a historic house with its own garden in Malaga; and at Trocadero Sotogrande, by the beach.

Each setting brings something different to the photographs. I look at the light, the spaces and how people move through them, while staying close to what’s happening.

I work with a documentary approach, giving you room to enjoy the day with your family and friends. We’ll also make time for portraits of the two of you, making the most of the setting and the light. I’ll give you some guidance whenever you need it, so you can relax and enjoy that time together.

A few questions about film wedding photography

Do you photograph the whole wedding on film?

I combine digital photography with film. You can choose how many rolls to include, depending on how much film you’d like in your wedding gallery. I’ll explain the options when you enquire.

Do you photograph weddings in Marbella and Sotogrande?

Yes. I’m based in Andalusia and photograph weddings in Marbella, Malaga, Sotogrande and across the Costa del Sol. Tell me where you’re getting married and I’ll include travel in your quote.

Which venues have you worked at on the Costa del Sol?

I’ve photographed weddings at Finca El Molino del Duque, Palacio Limonar in Malaga and Trocadero Sotogrande.

If you’re still looking for a venue, you’ll find more ideas in my guide to wedding venues in Malaga, Marbella and Sotogrande.

How do you deliver the film photographs?

Once the film has been developed and scanned, you’ll receive the photographs in an online gallery at the same time as your digital photographs, where you can download and share them just like the rest.

Do we need to plan the day differently if we choose film?

Film fits into the coverage alongside digital, so you don’t need to set aside separate parts of the day for it. Before the wedding, we’ll look at your plans and find a good time for your portraits, taking the light and the setting into account.

When should we get in touch?

As soon as you know your date and where you’re getting married. Tell me a little about what you’re planning and I’ll let you know if I’m available. Tell me about your wedding here.

Planning your wedding in Marbella or on the Costa del Sol?

Tell me when and where you’re getting married, and a little about what you’re planning. I’d love to hear from you.

I also photograph weddings in Seville, Cádiz, Jerez and across Andalusia. You can explore more of my work on my film wedding photography in Spain page.
