Film Wedding Photographer Seville

I’m María Benítez, a film wedding photographer in Seville specialising in documentary and analogue photography. I’ve been photographing weddings in Seville and across Andalusia for years, combining digital photography with 35mm and medium format film.

I like to let the day unfold naturally, without constantly directing what happens, and to pay attention to those little moments that can easily go unnoticed. Film is part of the way I see and photograph weddings, and it’s present in many of the weddings I shoot in Seville.

Why photograph your wedding in Seville on film?

There’s something about Seville that works especially well on film. The strong light, the interiors of its houses and palaces, the colours of its streets and those last moments of daylight before night falls all take on a particular texture when photographed on film.

But I don’t use film to make a wedding look old or vintage. I’m drawn to it precisely because it’s imperfect, and because it makes me observe, anticipate and choose when to press the shutter. That way of working fits naturally with my documentary approach: intervening as little as possible, staying close and photographing things as they really happen.

Photographing Seville Weddings on Film

I’ve photographed very different weddings in Seville, from intimate celebrations in the city centre to weddings in some of its most beautiful venues. One of the things I love about film is how differently it responds depending on the place, the light and the time of day.

The courtyards and architecture of Casa de Pilatos, the gardens and light at Villa Luisa, or the streets of the city during an intimate wedding in Seville all create completely different images. In each of these weddings, I combined digital and analogue photography, letting film become a natural part of the story.

For me, that’s part of the magic of photographing a wedding in Seville on film: not trying to make every image look the same, but allowing each place and each moment to have its own character.

It’s real
It tells the whole story
It’s deeply emotional

Planning a Destination Wedding in Seville?

Many of the couples I photograph in Seville come from abroad, so I’m used to working with weddings planned from a distance.

Before the wedding, we’ll talk about your plans, the places that are important to you and how you’d like film to be part of the day. You don’t need to decide in advance which moments should be photographed on film — that’s something I prefer to approach naturally as the wedding unfolds.

On the day itself, my priority is simple: for you to enjoy your wedding without photography taking over. I’ll work around what’s happening, combining digital and analogue photography while keeping the experience relaxed and unobtrusive.

Whether you’re getting married in the centre of Seville, in a historic palace or at a venue outside the city, I can also help with timings, light and photography logistics when we plan the day.

Over 18 Years Photographing Weddings

I’ve been photographing weddings for more than 18 years, and over that time the way I work has evolved, along with the cameras and formats I use.

What hasn’t changed is the way I observe what’s happening without interfering too much. Over the years, I’ve learnt that many of the photographs that end up mattering most aren’t necessarily the most spectacular ones. Sometimes they’re small gestures, people, situations or moments that happen when no one is paying attention to the camera.

Film is a natural part of the way I work. I don’t use it as a trend or as an aesthetic to apply to every wedding, but as another tool that allows me to keep photographing in the way I always have.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we choose how much film we want for our wedding?

Yes. You can include as much film as you’d like. Some couples choose just a few rolls, while others want film to have a much bigger presence throughout the day. There’s no fixed amount — it’s completely up to you.

How does film fit into the way you photograph weddings?

For me, film brings something different to a wedding. The colours, the way it responds to light, the grain and texture make the photographs feel more sensory. I love its imperfections — those little things you can’t completely control that somehow make an image even more special.

Do you photograph weddings on film outside Seville?

Yes. I photograph weddings wherever they take me, and I love when couples connect with my work so much that they want me to travel with them to tell their story. Photography has taken me from Seville and Andalusia to Mallorca, Italy and other destinations across Spain and Europe.
