Beach maternity photoshoot in Chiclana, Spain
Mamen and Jesús live away from Cádiz, but Chiclana has always been a special place for Mamen. She has spent her summers here since she was a child, so when they were expecting their first baby, coming back for a beach maternity photoshoot felt like a natural choice.
We chose a quiet stretch of beach near Sancti Petri, surrounded by pine trees and dunes. The idea was to keep their beach maternity photoshoot simple and relaxed, making the most of the landscape and giving them plenty of space to just enjoy being together.
A maternity photoshoot with your partner
We started the session in the late afternoon, when the light was beginning to soften, first around the pine trees and dunes before slowly making our way down to the beach.
Mamen chose casual, comfortable clothes that showed her bump naturally, and changed outfits once during the session. Nothing was overly styled or complicated, which worked perfectly with the surroundings and with the kind of photographs we wanted to create.
Mamen loves having her photo taken, and both she and Jesús felt completely comfortable in front of the camera. That made the whole session very easy. There was no need to over-direct them or constantly tell them what to do.
Natural couple maternity photos
When I photograph couples, I don’t want to spend the whole session positioning them or asking them to hold a particular pose. I prefer to give a little direction when it’s needed and then leave enough space for things to happen naturally.
With Mamen and Jesús, their maternity photos on the beach came together naturally as we walked through the dunes, spent some time among the pine trees and eventually reached the shore as the light became warmer and softer.
Having different landscapes within such a small area also gave us plenty of variety without needing to move to another location. The pine trees, dunes and open beach each gave the photographs a slightly different feel while keeping the session relaxed.
Their beach maternity photoshoot was ultimately about something very simple: documenting this particular moment in their lives in a place that already meant something to them.
For Mamen, these are the beaches she has been returning to since childhood. This time, she came back with Jesús while they were waiting for their first baby, adding a new memory to a place already full of them.
If you’re planning a maternity photoshoot in Cádiz or southern Spain and would like natural photographs with your partner, you can get in touch and tell me a little about the kind of session you have in mind.
