A honeymoon photoshoot in Seville
Madison and David came to Seville on their honeymoon and celebrated their marriage with a vow renewal photoshoot. We started at their hotel before heading to Plaza de España for sunrise, then walked through Santa Cruz as the city woke up.
I photographed the session in digital and on film, from the emotion of their first look to our walk through the streets of Seville.
A first look at Las Casas del Rey de Baeza
We began at Hospes Las Casas del Rey de Baeza, where Madison and David got ready. Their first look was in one of the hotel’s courtyards, and David was very emotional when he saw Madison.
It was a lovely way to begin the morning, with time for the two of them before we headed out into the city.
Plaza de España at sunrise
From the hotel, we went straight to Plaza de España. Sunrise is one of my favourite times to photograph here: the light is soft, the square is quieter and there’s more space to enjoy it.
We walked across the bridges and along the tiled benches and galleries, stopping for photographs as the light changed. I gave Madison and David some guidance when they needed it and left room for them to enjoy being together.
A walk through Santa Cruz
Later that morning, we walked through Santa Cruz, stopping in the small squares, beside tapas bars with painted tiles and in patches of light coming through the orange trees.
By then, the city was waking up around us. After the open spaces of Plaza de España, the narrow streets gave us a different setting for the rest of their photographs.
On film and digital
I photographed the session on digital and film, using my Nikon F100 for 35mm and a Holga for some medium format photographs, with Kodak Portra 400 for colour.
I like seeing the film and digital photographs together: different textures and colours, all part of the same morning.
