Granada Film Wedding Photographer

I’m María Benítez, a documentary and film wedding photographer based in Andalusia. I photograph weddings, elopements and proposals in Granada, combining digital photography with 35mm and, for some weddings, medium format film.

I notice the people around you: the conversations, the hugs when everyone arrives and the way you look for each other among your guests.

When you choose film, I use my film cameras alongside digital throughout the day. Depending on the number of rolls, that can include getting ready, the ceremony, portraits, your guests and the party.

I work with real film in colour and black and white, which is then developed and scanned. I love its grain, its colours and the way it records light.

We can talk through the options before you book and choose how many rolls to include.

Why I photograph weddings on film

I’m drawn to photographs that bring back the feeling of being somewhere: the light, the movement and the people around you.

Film is part of how I make those photographs. I use it alongside digital, paying attention to the composition and choosing each frame carefully, from portraits of the two of you to everything happening around you.

Weddings, elopements and proposals in Granada

I’ve been photographing weddings since 2009, and Granada is a place I keep coming back to.

I photographed an elopement at the Alhambra, with just the two of them walking through its grounds.

In the Albaicín, I photographed a proposal in a carmen, a traditional house with a garden overlooking the city. Much of that session was photographed on film.

I’ve also photographed weddings in Granada and at a private estate in the Valle de Lecrín, in the countryside south of the city.

I work with a documentary approach, staying close to what’s happening and giving you room to enjoy the day with your family and friends. We’ll also make time for portraits of the two of you, making the most of the setting and the light. I’ll give you some guidance whenever you need it.

A few questions about film wedding photography

Do you photograph the whole wedding on film?

I combine digital photography with film. You can choose how many rolls to include, and I’ll explain the options when you enquire.

Do you photograph elopements in Granada?

Yes. I’ve photographed an elopement at the Alhambra and also photograph small weddings in Granada. Tell me what you’re planning, and we can discuss locations and timings for your photographs.

Can you photograph a proposal in Granada?

Yes. I’ve photographed a proposal in a carmen in the Albaicín, much of it on film. We’ll discuss the location and time of day beforehand so I can be ready to photograph the moment.

Do you photograph weddings outside the city?

Yes. I’ve worked in the Valle de Lecrín and travel throughout the province. Tell me where you’re getting married and I’ll include travel in your quote.

How do you deliver the film photographs?

Once the film has been developed and scanned, you’ll receive the photographs in an online gallery, ready to download and share.

When should we get in touch?

As soon as you know your date and where you’re getting married. Tell me a little about what you’re planning and I’ll let you know if I’m available. Tell me about your wedding here.

Planning your wedding in Granada?

Tell me when and where you’re getting married, and a little about what you’re planning. I’d love to hear from you.

I also photograph weddings in Seville, Marbella, Sotogrande and across Andalusia. You can see more of my work on my film wedding photography in Spain page.
