Same-Sex Wedding in Andalucia: Amalia & Mari in Seville
Same-Sex wedding in Andalucia
SEVILLA
Amalia and Mari live in London, but they chose to celebrate their same-sex wedding in Andalucia.
Mari is from Norway and Amalia from Puerto Rico. They decided to get married in Seville because it felt like the right place to bring everyone together and celebrate their relationship. It wasn’t a strategic decision. It was emotional. They love the light, the food and the way life feels here. And when you’re planning a wedding, that kind of feeling matters more than anything else.
As a wedding photographer in Seville, I see many international couples looking for exactly that: authenticity. Not a backdrop. Not a postcard. A place with real character.
And Andalucia has that.
Getting ready at Hacienda Villanueva del Pitamo
They both got ready at Hacienda Villanueva del Pitamo, one of the most comfortable and private wedding venues in Seville. Having everything in the same place made the whole day feel relaxed and natural.
They prepared in separate rooms, although they kept going back and forth until it was finally time to get dressed. Being there for their first look just before the ceremony was one of those moments that doesn’t need staging. You could feel how much they care about each other.
The ceremony took place outdoors. It was organised and officiated by their friends, which made it personal and emotional in a very honest way.
The styling and decoration were designed by María León, using a palette of pink and orange tones that brought warmth and colour to the whole setting.
The planning was led by Oheme, which helped the day flow naturally from start to finish.
To seal their vows, they took two shots: Dominican rum for Mari, vodka for Amalia. That was their way of making it official. Later, during the party, bottles were passed around and guests drank straight from them.
The atmosphere was what defined this wedding. Friends and family had travelled from different countries to celebrate with them in Seville, and you could feel that energy all day.
Documentary Photography for a Same-Sex Wedding in Andalucia
Amalia and Mari chose me because of my documentary approach and because I shoot on film.
They didn’t want to pose. They wanted to experience the day without interruptions.
That’s the advantage of documentary wedding photography, especially for a same-sex wedding in Andalucia or any international wedding in Spain. The focus stays on what’s actually happening. The looks, the laughter, the movement, the conversations in different languages blending together.
Film photography also brings a certain pace. It forces intention. It fits naturally with the light in Seville and with couples who don’t want their wedding to feel staged.
That’s exactly what this day was about.
This same-sex wedding in Andalucia was a celebration built around honesty, friends and the kind of atmosphere Seville naturally creates.
