I’m María Benítez, a wedding photographer living in Chiclana, just down the road from Jerez. I’ve been photographing weddings since 2009, many of them for couples who come from abroad to celebrate here with their people.
I like getting to know the people I photograph, becoming part of the atmosphere and having a good time with you. Paying attention to everything that happens while you enjoy your day, so that afterwards you have photographs where you recognise your people and everything you lived together.
01 — How I work
Your Jerez wedding, just as you live it
You’ve brought together your favourite people, some of them have travelled a long way, and you’ve spent months imagining this day. I want you to have time to hug them, sit down and talk, have a drink and end up dancing together.
I’ll be around with my camera, getting to know your family and keeping an eye on everything that happens. Sometimes very close, sometimes giving you space. I like being part of the atmosphere, and there comes a moment when you barely think about the photos at all.
We’ll also take photos with your family and friends, and we can sneak away for a little while to take some of the two of you. If you need a hand, I’ll be there to help. You don’t need to know what to do in front of a camera.
In Jerez I’ve photographed weddings among sherry barrels, in courtyards and in gardens. Every place has its own light and atmosphere, but what interests me most is always what happens between the people who are there.
If you love film photography, you can add a few rolls to your coverage. I love combining it with digital: the texture, the colours and the little surprises of film bring another way of remembering the day.

The people, the hugs, how you felt. That’s what I want to come back when you look at your photos.

02 — Planning from abroad
Getting married in Jerez when you live in another country
Many of my couples live abroad and come to Andalusia to celebrate their wedding with family and friends. I’m used to everything starting with an email, and to meeting in person on the wedding day itself.
You can write to me in English or Spanish and tell me what you’re planning: where you’re getting married, how you imagine the celebration and what matters to you. I’ll let you know if your date is free and send you all the information so you can read it calmly.
From there, we stay in touch and sort out any questions as they come up. If you’d like a video call to get to know each other, we can find a time for that too.
My usual coverage goes from getting ready to the party. I like having time to photograph how the day begins, how everyone slowly lets go, and how it all ends on the dance floor.
Afterwards you’ll receive your online gallery, with edited photographs ready to download and share. And to come back to together, slowly, once it’s all over.

04 — Common questions
Before you write to me
We feel a bit awkward in front of the camera. Do we have to pose?
You don’t need to know how to pose or worry about how you look during the day. You’ll be with your people, things will be happening, and I’ll be photographing them. When we take some photos of the two of you, we’ll find a quiet moment and I’ll help you if you need it.
Do you also take family and group photos?
Of course. These are photographs that become incredibly precious over the years. Before the wedding we can talk about who you’d like photos with and find a moment to take them without dragging it out.
Can we have both digital and film photographs?
Yes. The coverage is digital, and you can add rolls of film: colour, black and white, or a mix of both. If you’re interested, I’ll explain the options, and you can see examples on my film photography page.
Have you photographed weddings in bodegas? We're worried there won't be much light.
Yes, I’ve worked in bodegas and I’m used to the changes in light throughout a wedding day. I adapt the way I photograph to each moment and space, keeping the atmosphere that made you choose the place.
Do you travel outside Jerez?
Yes. I live in Chiclana and work all over Andalusia, and I also travel for weddings in other parts of Spain and Europe. Tell me where you’re getting married and I’ll prepare a quote including travel.
How far in advance should we contact you?
As soon as you have a date and a place, you can ask me. Some couples book more than a year ahead, others find me when there are only a few months to go. If you like my work, write to me and we’ll check if I’m free.
How do we book the date?
First, tell me a little about your wedding and I’ll send you my availability and a quote. If you’d like me to be your photographer, the date is reserved with a signed contract and a deposit. Then we stay in touch and, as the wedding gets closer, we go over the details so you arrive at the day with everything sorted.
